The hardpipe kit: Opportunity: No chrome-plated kits available - only aluminum and stainless steel. I thought this a good opportunity to make an attractive, quality, kit. HKS was the only other 'major' vendor selling a hardpipe kit, and they were also aluminum.Process: With another guy, we bent, cut, fit, threw away, bent, cut, ground, fit, recut, etc., all 4 pipes ourselves from rough sketches I had made. Blowing through material over a period of about 3 months during our 'free' time. Then, we put them into production in an attempt to get the cost fair. To be honest, it was more of an opportunity for me to try something fun that I thought I had the ability to do and to network with fellow Z-ers. The mark-up was very minimal.
My downpipes: Custom fabbed - period. The design of my pipes is unique to even Greg's design. Plus the cutouts, we believe, were the first ever on a Z. The longer split (mine have, like Greg's do now) was something I took from Corky Bell's book and calculations. Even though there are arguments against the 3" DP (not the point here), we came off the compressor and flanged at a set angle to slowly open up to the 3" pipe. Way too expensive to even attempt to ever market.
My suspension pieces: I've worked with Charles for almost 2 years, and told him that I would track his parts - drive them hard, and see how they do. Plus, like I said, I support the people in the community over the big companies that could give a sh*t less about us. Thanks for bringing up the point, I hope I answered satisfactorily. SS
